Shadow Calculator uses the solar altitude angle (α) to solve the right triangle formed by an object and its shadow. By calculating the precise sun position for your location and date, we determine the exact shadow length (L).

L = h / tan(α)

Where: L = Shadow Length h = Object Height α = Sun Altitude

Shadow Direction depends on the Sun Azimuth, calculated from your Latitude (φ), Solar Declination (δ), and Solar Altitude (α).
